May 12, 2009. Similar problem with XP migration. I have migrated my old Dell machine which has XP using Transporter. The migration seems to have worked, but when the virtual machine initializes, about a third of the way through, it says i need to manually continue. Then i find that Windows XP wants me to activate XP. My Dell computer came with a Windows XP Professional SP2 reinstallation disk, but I don't have a COA key for it. How can I activate this after. I have a dell latitude d610 laptop with windows xp professional that was given to me by my mother she said she pieced all the insides of the laptop together online through dell and had it shipped ( so it doesnt come with a windows xp CD its built into the computer), she gives it to me, i've been using it for. When my friends Compaq computer became so corrupted as to make it unusable, I re-installed Win XP but was then not able to activate it either over the. Also, after a re-install of XP on my Dell computer, I cannot download the Windows 'Updates' because it will not complete the 'validation' process. Ok *deep breath*, First i'd like to say forgive me if this is in the wrong section, i'm not too sure. Dell is a company that is really good about shipping a full OS installation disk with all of their new products. Are you sure an OS reinstall disk was not included with the packaging? (For that model and XP Pro, it was probably a Purple colored CD along with the Drivers/Utilites CD and the Applications CD). If you didn't have the Dell OS Reinstall CD, what did you use to reinstall XP Pro with? The yellow 'Splash' icons are on the Network Adaptors - wireless adaptor and physical NIC (Wireless card could have been an Intel ProWireless device, or a Broadcom device or a Dell Wireless device; the NIC could be any number of NICs - Realtek, Broadcom, Intel, etc). You can use the Service Tag of the machine and connect to the Dell support site from one of your computers with Internet access and obtain the System Information for the laptop when it was shipped (This will tell you all the hardware that is configured on the laptop and you can use the information to find the drivers for the network adaptors - also from the support site using the Service Tag) 4. This relates to question #2, but if you used an installation source other than a Dell OEM install CD, then then product key on the bottom of your laptop will not work and you will have to reactivate the machine. Try getting the network adaptor drivers installed first, and then you can run the Activation Wizard when you have internet connection again. Otherwise, you can call Microsoft directly. You will need the OEM product key for the XP Professional install. You explain you had to reformat and reinstall your OS and they should give you a new Activation code you can enter to then activate XP. By Stephanie Ybarra Large PC Manufacturers known as Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) have the ability to pre-activate Microsoft® Windows XP software installed on new PCs. As a result, end users are typically not required to activate the software during the set up process by typing in the product key found on the Certificate of Authenticity attached to the PC (COA Key). In order to reduce a significant source of piracy, Microsoft has disabled online activation for COA Keys that are attached to PCs that have been pre-activated by OEMs. This change should have a minimal impact on licensed users who generally do not use their COA Key to activate the software because it has been pre-activated by the OEM. However, if a licensed end user needs to activate because the OEM pre-activation does not work as expected (e.g., after the replacement of a defective motherboard) they can do so via phone-based activation. To help minimize the potential impact on licensed users, this whitepaper provides steps licensed end users can take to preserve OEM pre-activation when reinstalling the operating system using any of the four scenarios outlined below (sysprep, OOBEinfo, manual and unattended). The following product keys should be substituted for XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX in the solutions discussed below. Looking for solid confirmation on how Windows(XP,Vista,7,8) OEM can be reinstalled/activated Windows XP (Home/Professional) OEM(SLP) (Dell, HP etc.) Using GRTMHOEM_EN. If the procedure was successful, a message indicating that Windows has already been activated will be displayed. Note: Instead of implementing any of the solutions outlined below, Volume License customers can use Volume License media to install the same operating system that was licensed from an OEM without acquiring a volume license for a PC being re-imaged. More information about this option is available here under “Re-Imaging Rights”:. Because Volume License agreements do not provide a full operating system license, Windows licenses should be acquired as part of the PC purchase from the PC manufacturer. Using “sysprep –reseal –mini” Command OEM pre-activation can be preserved when Sysprep.exe is run to reseal the system using the –reseal – mini switches by following these steps. • Ensure the following three files are present in the C: Sysprep folder: sysprep.exe, setupcl.exe, and factory.exe. These files can be found in the deploy.cab which can be downloaded from the Microsoft® download center available at this location: • Create a file named sysprep.inf using a text editor such as Notepad that contains the information shown below substituting the appropriate product key. [UserData] ProductKey =”XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX” • Save the sysprep.inf file in the c: sysprep folder. • Run c: sysprep –reseal –mini For more information on the sysprep process, please visit.
